A progress report of the work of the , j Meaf Producers' Board presented to the r i Dominion executive of the Farmers' 3 Union to-night was declared by the - chairman. Mr. O. W. Leadley. of Ashf burton, to be very satisfactory. t The report stated that the elimination - of small parcels had resulted in im- > provemont of conditions of discharge and ; delivery. The number of softened carcases and torn and dirty wrappers ( caused through excessive handling had ; been reduced. The regulation of shipi ments was very directly related to the j i state of markets. . Shipments from I • Xovember to. April this year were 2,757.- ---; 941 carcases, against 3,181.530 for the • same period lust year. I Negotiations with the shipping comi panics had resulted in the companies . agreeing to a reduction in beef freights ; which mean! about 7/(i per head. ! The reduction in pork freights had j • secured most gratifying results. The j ; exports of pork in the current season j • totalled 10.318cwt, against 2l6Pcwt last year.
