To pave coal take half a •feaspoonful of_ saltpetre, mix it with halt a cupful of water, and pour this among a scuttleful of coals. Leave tlie coals to stand for a few minutes before using. The result will be a 'brighter tire and also the coal will not burn away so quickly. Plain (lour is invaluable. One teaSpoonful of mustard to four of plain (lour blended together with a little warm water, placed on flannel, and applied lo the chest, will remove a had cough. If applied at once to -a. burn or Bcakl, it wiil stop the sting and take 'the heat out. , To remove ink stains try rubbing the i stains with tartaric acid dissolved in a very little water. Allow this to remain j on for a while, and when the frock -.as been washed and boiled in the usual way tbo staiins will have or try | soaking the ink stains in glycerine. I To remove iron rust some people make I the mistake of using epiri'ts of salts. ; which often burns a hole in tlie fabric. The mo-1 effective way is to squeeze the. juice of a lemon on the dry spot (don't j wet it), and then spread it out flat in the sun. Keep repeating until tho rust is removed. To extermiatc ants take equal quantities of borax and sugar. 6et on a plate, and wet with water. If it is pounded together (it may be sprinkled dry on shelves or on ants' tracks and nests.
