WITHDRAWAL OF TEACHERS.
FROM SELECTED POSITIONS. SYSTEM TO BLAME. (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Executive of the Xew Zealand Educational Institute explains that there is another side to tlie complaint of the Education Hoards of frequent withdrawals of teachers from positions for which they have boon selected. Owing to iin excessive number of (trades of positions in tlie service, it is pointed out that teachers are practically obliged for their own protection to apply for every suitable promotion offering. If they' don't, they will find themselves being left behind. There are nine separate districts advertising similar vacancies, teachers being obliged to submit sometimes three or four applications at the same time., and, as selection depends on grading, it follows that frequently the same applicant will bo selected for more than one position and must withdraw from >>no or more, causing delay and annoyance, not only to Boards but to teachers also. The fault is not with the teachero, but with a system that, tolerates so many slops in the scale of promotion that teachers have to be continually moving from place to place.
