JERSEY CATTLE CLUB.
ASSISTING SOLDIER SETTLERS. ! ' A general meeting of the Auckland ' : Jersey Cattle Club was held in the A. ' and P. rooms this morning, Mr. \V. H. j Waterhouse presiding. ; J A letter was received from Messrs. : Wright, Stephenson and Co. regarding ' tlicir proposal to hold a sale of pedigres < cattle about the time of the Winter - Show, and asking for the club's support. ; After discussion it was decided that ] owing to the club holding their annual '. sale shortly afterwards it could not f accede to the request. The club's sale ] was fixed for September 4. i 1 Sir Andrew Russell recently brought ] under notice a so"heme formulated by the ( New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Asso- ] X ciation for assisting soldier settlers who '■ } had taken up dairying by providing them '■ ■. with bulls of approved quality. Owing c to the financial conditions that had pre- . \ vailed since these soldiers took up farm- , ing few were in a position to purchase ; a really first-class sire. The sugges- ] tion that appeared most feasible to him c and likely to lead to further develop- ( ment was that breeders of pure-bred stock be invited to donate a bull of ser- . viceable age during the season, such to be available to any returned soldier on \ payment of £5 for tl'reo seasons. \t the j expiration of that time it became the property of the organisation operating, who could sell it to the settler, transfer ; it to another soldier settler, or dispose of it by. auction. ; t After discussion it was decided to r reply that the members of the club j would give their support to the scheme 1 both individually and collectively. I Some of the members stated that they c had already given bulls to soldier i settlors. i The annual meeting will take place on t July 19. 1
