MANAWATU RACING CLUB. THESPIAN WINS AGAIN. TOO GOOD l'X)lt TAMATETE. BROADWOOD FAILS TO STAY. PALMERSTON- NORTH, Thursday. The Manawatu Ttac-ins Club's Autumn ■Meeting -was successfully concluded to-dny in good weather and with a very large attendance, although pernaps not up to last year, when tho second (Jay was held on n Saturday. A somewhat serious accident took place during the running of the Ixragburn Handicap, which resulted iv the lightweight horsemen 11. Alexander, L. Garrett and D. Butler being Injured, while the mare Dainty Step broke her fetlock and was destroyed, and the horses Festivity, Tapairu and Wheatfleld were badly knocked about. In the Mnnawatu Stakes Thespian succeeded in beating Taniatete after a good race. The totalisation investments reached £26,705, which made a total for the meeting of £.56.501). as against £j<5,210 last year. Particulars are :— Racing commenced -with the Lockwood handicap, a race for apprentices, and Black Cruiser and Atapo were the favourites. The latter got a bad run. and after Ihapotoa and Good Mark had mace the running to the straight. Black Cruiser took charge, and stalling off a great run by Alarlc, won by a head, while Good Mark was a neck away, third. The Rood Held of thirteen came out for the Hurdle Race, and En Route. Explorer, and Malingerer were those best hacked. Antomoana. as usual, made the running, but was headed by Malingerer, which drew away to win easily by two lengths from Automoana. which beat En Route by a length, with Explorer fourth. So less than twenty came out for the Stonyhurst Welter. Askarl winding up favourite, with Santonio, Bodyguard, Ilaurangi and bnppy Days all well fiiucied. With the exception of Santonio. the favourite division never once flattered their supporters, and Lady Kotirlpo and Island, coming away in the straight after the former had made the early running, a great race saw Lady Kotirlpo get the decision by a head, with Santonio third and Pantler fourth. Lady Kotlripo failed by threequarters of a pound to draw the weight, and Island was placed first, Santonio second and Pantlor third. Tamatete was sent out a strong favourite for the Manawatu Stakes, which brought out five runners. Queen March being withdrawn. The two-year-oin Attractive made the pace very solid, and Tamsitete failed to go with her. as is usual, and Thespian was handy to him when tney turned for home. The pair headed Attractive, and a jrreat rac<; resulted. Thespian heating Tamatete t>y a neck. Llstowel finished well to just cut Attractive out of third money. King's .Toy, Bugle Note and Deluge all got good support in the Cloverlea Nursery and King's Joy and Deluge were in front all the w.ir. Deluge eventually winning easily by a length and a half, while King's .Toy beat Rercmoana by a similar distance for second honours. - The Auckland horse Broadwood was backed as If tho I.ongburn Handicap was all over. Bonnetter and Scotch Mixture getting most support of Ihe others. The favourite was one of the leaders, with Quest, in the early part, but fulled to run on, and Sunart getting a run through on tho rails in the straight, won by a neck from Quest, which beat Rouen by a length, with Bonnetter close up tourth. As stated elsewhere. Dainty Step, Festivity and Talpalru fell. Rod Helen wound up favourite In the Adderston Welter, but failed badly, Birkenella staying on to win ;>y a length from Kaotane. -n-ith Deft two lengths a*sny. ttrlrd. The concluding event, the Borough Handicap, was a great betting race, all the starters getting support. It was a great finish, and a fitting wind up to a successful meeting.
