KAIKOURA'S N0.4 HOLD.
PLATES SLIGHTLY BUCKLED. RELOADIXO THE CAROO. The work of repairing the beams and plates immediately above the spot where the fire broke out in the Kaikoura's No. 4 hold last Monday is being carried out to-day, as it was discovered on Saturday, during a survey of the hold, that they had been somewhat buckled. The hold is being cleaned out and painted and the 100 casks of tallow. which were removed to the wharf and to the Harbour Board's shed, will be loaded again to-morrow, and the steamer will sail at 5 o'clock in the evening for Opua to load about 30,000 carcases of meat. She will return to Auckland on Monday next to reload the sound portion of the wool and should clear for London a few days later, via Monte Video.
The salvaged wool, totalling about 1200 bales, was distributed among all the local fellmongers last week, and some of it is being reconditioned by machinery and some by being spread oiit in the sun. The line weather has favoured the work and practically all the wool that is in a sound condition will be ready for reshipment by the end of the. week. Some 220 bales of loose charred wool were sold by auction on Saturday.
