COUNCIL'S DECISION FLOUTED. OTAGO RULED OL'T. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday. The following reference to the dispute between the Otago Boxing Association and the New Zealand Boxing Council appears in the annual report of the council Just issued:—"While loth to refer to the difference between the council and the Otago , Boxing Association, the council feels that j Ihe general interests of the sport require ! such reference. The council is constituted I for the purpose of administering the laws. ! and its decisions are based on the laws. • The council's decisions, even if tbey do not 1 happen to agree with the views of an interested body, are at least entitled to the respect accorded 111 all branches of sport to the decisions of an impartial tribunal. If tlie council's decisions are flouted, if members of the council are slandered, and if an effort is made to create dissension among affiliated bodies, then it is obvious that any associated body guilty of such excesses Is a menace to the general welfare of the institution to which it is nffllinted. The ; Otago Boxing Association has chosen to I adopt an attitude for which no precedent j can be found in the history of the sport in I New Zealand. The controlling body is ] compelled to take such action as it deems I necessary for safeguarding the interests of [affiliated associations. The Otago Boxing ] Association cannot be permitted to remain affiliated."
