RETIRED ANGLO-INDIANS A3 SETTLERS. TKX-ACRE PLOTS IX B.C. (Frnui Our Special Correspondent.) LONDON', February 17. Immigration policies are being revise* on all sides and with the disappearance of the halcyon days when an emigrant could look for a free homestead, for laud for nothing, the sparsely settled countries are adapting new tactics. In the details we are receiving ox Canada's new tactics in this repaid we note an extremely interesting develops tnent. It is proposed to undertake a publicity campaign in India fur the purr pose of attracting retired Anglo-Indians. Having been advised that Mime British officers arc to }>c retired mi pensions early in the new year, the Canadian Government has commissioned LieutColonel R. Innes, of the Soldier Settlement Board, to proceed to Tndia to confer with such officers as he may be able to get in touch with, and furnish them with information respecting the opportunities for settlement in Canada. It is felt lhat many officers of the Indian Army are well adapted as settlers in the fertile valleys of southern British Columbia. Ten-acre plots of land, suit* able for fuitgrow ing. can be obtained at fairly reasonahl? figures, and within three or four years after planting, should give a good return on the original investment. This section of Canada should lid attractive to the class of Englishman who is accustomed to outdoor life. He could have two or three head of eattla and a few sheep, which would give him all the milk and mutton required in the home: he could have his own kit-hen garden and. if fund til" sport, the adjacent hills and streams w.mld afford him minting and fishing to his bean's content. Has the idea anything in ir for Xcir Zealand? Anglo-Indians would find tha North Island climatically suited to them.
