WAR MEMORIAL UNVEILED

DEVONPORT CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH. The ceremony of unveiling a war ntemorial table at Devonport. Congregational Church was largely attended hist evening, the building being packed. A guard of honour was in attendance. ami a detachment was also present from H.M.?. Philomel. Air. John .larvis (superintendent., on behalf of the Sunday school, presented the memorial 'to the church. It is of brass, and bears the inscription: "The flreat War, and in memory of those who fought, and those who lighting fell." Hugler Biddle. of the 35th Company Cadets, sounded the "Last Post,'' the congregation standing while -the Tier. .7. M. Stewart, who is himself a returned soldier, unveiled and dedicated Hie tablet. The subjert. of 1 he. sermon was "The Undying Momorv," Mr. Stewart taking his text from Mark, eh. 14. v. 0. '•'Verily 1 say unto you. wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole ivurld, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her." Mr. Stewart referred to the deeds ot the lads who left bank, office, shop, factory and field to tight for their country. He paid a fitting tribute to the patriotism and heroism of thoso who had fallen in the service of the Empire.
