LAWN TENNIS.

XOTES AXT> COiMiMIvNTS. CITALF-VOLLEY.) The intereluh competitions, under the nus, piocs of the Auckland Lav. n Tcnm> Association, were continued on Saturday lit the Stanley Street court*. In the semi-final of the 1$ grade Parnoi: beat. Remuera by one match after a close fijjht. In tile semi-final of the f grade llemuera just beat Eden and Epsom. Duncan was obviously short ot practice, and did well to "take a set, from Kntwistle. Thfi latter is inclined to rely too much on hard hitting, lie, lio\vc\cr, steadied down in the third set. Ko.binson heat Hart in a fairly dose match. The wind seemed to cause the Kciniiera player a lot of trouble. Robinson played a very accurate, game, aiifl did well to pick up in the second and third M'ts. Henderson outplayed iMartelli, whe was no match for the back court stead, ne.-s of the Remuera man. ■Dodge played well against Lamb, and "'on in straight sets. The Parnell player was inclined to .be erratic Miss Coiebrook created a surprise by lieating Miss Ke.rr-Taylor. The Parncil Indy got everything' back and mad' ■some brilliant lrecoveri«3. (She tlioronghly deserved her win. Miss Marion Macfarlane proved tor good for Miss, Franklin, and won with something to spare, her court craft being superior to the Parnell lady's. ' Hart and Duncan combined too well for Entwistlc and Robinson. Hart was very severe overhead, and Duneai: volleyed very nicely at times. 'Colejrrove and jlenderxon were nr match for Jacob and Martelli. The Panicil pair as a combination were much stronger. Henderson failed to get close enough to the net for his volleys Jacob's lc-%bing was very good in tiii* match. l>oidge and Macfarlane showed a woeful lack of combination against Lamb and Biernacki. Doidge'e double play is not nearly as good as his single. and he was on the back line far toe much on .Saturday. When he did try to join his partner at the net it was very often on a weak shot which presented the point to his opponents. Misees Colegrove and Franklin did very well to beat such experienced match players as Iliss Kerr-Taylor ano Miss Macfarlane. iliss Colegrove vol leyed very well and won many point: for her side. Misses Ziman and Battersby lost tc Misses Pagni and Xoakes after a fairly close game. Miss Pagni played we!] and largely dominated the game. Jacob and Miss Ziman beat Macfarlane and Miss Pagni. Jacob was very steady and intercepted well. Biernacki and 'Miss Batters-by were not, strong enough for Colegrove and (Miss Xoakes, who won fairly easily.
