DEATH OF GIFTED PRIEST.
SON OF SIR WESTBY PERCEVAL. (From Our Special Correspondent.) LONDON", February 7. When last month we recorded the illness and fortunate recovery of Sir Westby Perceval, formerly Agent-Gen-eral for New Zealand, and still actively Concerned in a number of Dominion companies here, it was not anticipated that Kir Perceval would so soon suffer a personal loss which would severely try him. The death has just taken place of Father Alan Perceval at Streatham, Sir Westby's son. By his death the diocese of Southwark h:is lost a young priest of very attractive personality and of much promise for the future. He was educated at Wimbledon College and at Lincoln College, Oxford, where he became both secretary nnd president of the ■ Newmnn Society, and co-founder of St. I Patrick's Club. " After teaching for some time at Stonyhurst and Beaumont, he went to the P.cda College in Rome, where lie was ordained priest in 11)15. He waa | greatly interested in thu work of the | Catholic Social Guild, in connection with j which he organised several study classes j for nuns and others. He also acted for some, years with marked success as | secretary of the Guild of the Blessed : Sacrament for men in South London, j Jlore recently lie had served as director ; of study chiss<.s fur Catholic Evidence 1 tiuild work. Although severely liandieapped by ill-health he proved* himself a preacher of much distinction, having been sclmti-d a preacher for important occasions Lotli in Westminster Cathedral ami St. George's Cathedral, Southwark. His deafTi at an early age is greatly deplored.
