THE NOKTHEKN COMMAND. TENTH ANNUAL MEETING. The tenth annual meeting of the Northern Military Command Rifle Association was opened'at the Penrose rifle range, today. There were present about 31H) en- ■ mint- from all parts of tiie eommanl. The prize list consi.-ls of ca.-h and trophies amounting to £:iOu. Then- ar,. a number of gold, silver and bronze medals for the cadet teams , match. These are provided for from a fund left by the late Sir John I."?an Campbell for the encouragement of rill- shooting among the cadets of the Auckland district. The lnfii'ting, which concludes to-morrow, promises to he of interest, in tiiat tli.' Hamilton Ilieh Se.hool, the h-jlders of the Logan Campiiell \'a-c. have conic in strength, and the Auckland (irammar School, as shown by their entries, mean to have a good try to g»t back their oil trophy. The programme includes matches for ende's under ill, cadets of becundary schools undei 18, cadets of artisan units uiitli-r IS.- U-rritorials, navy, reserve forces iind permanent htafl"; "allcomers' , in which the rifle clubs may shoot, and team matches at service moving targets. The visitors, as usual, are being accommodated under canvas at Penrose. They are provided with tents, beds and blanket-. The officer in charge of {he range is Major .T. A. Wallingfonl, who is assisted by an efficient stall. ' The Technical College, showing an increased interest in the meeting this year, sent 21 boys to take part in the matches. The muster from the Hamilton High Sehol numbers SO. while that of the Auckland Grammar School is 00. Another {rood feature of the match is the fact, tint more territorials are comin<r forward. The arrangement* of the meeting are. made the more satisfactory through adopting the Bisley system. The competitors are issued with tickets which tliev take to the range and do their shooting at their own and !nt any distance for which they have I entered.
