THEIR WORST INNINGS.
OUT UNDER A HUNDRED. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, March 9. The M.C.C 7 team began a. match against Victoria to-day. The weather was ideal and the wicket fast. The attendance numbered 3000. The Englishmen were dismissed for 71 and the Victorians had runs for the loss of three wickets when stumps were drawn for the day. They repeatedly fell into the offtheory trap. Five out of the first six batsmen were caught in the slips, where Ryder was very smart. Liddicut .bowled a good length. At one stage the score was four wickats for eight. Wallace was very fast. Eight men lost their wickets feeling for the off-ball. Chapman caught Woodful beautifully low down at slip. The Englishmen's total was passed after an hour's batting. Good length bowling at the start demanded caution by the batsmen. The Love-Pons-ford partnership added 125 runs in 97 minutes. Ponsford, who was smartly stumped, hit six fours and made many excellent off-drives. He gave no chances. Love, when 07, hit a ball hard to cover and ran fooliwhly. Chapman returned the ball beautifully to the wicket-keeper and Ryder sacrificed his wicket. He ran only when he saw that Love could not get back. The Englishmen joined in the applause of this unselfishness. love's century occupied 141 minutes. He hit seven fours.—(A. and NJZ. Cable). ,
