STEAMER ON REEF.

PASSENGERS AND CREW SAFE. Sydney, March 8. , The steamer Mindini, bound from the Solomons to Sydney, is ashore on Mel!U]i Reef, off the coast of Queensland, and is •in a perilous position. All the passengers and crew have been safely landed at Herald Beacon. Several steamers are rushing to the assistance in response to wireless calls. (A. and Cable.)

A wireless message was received by the secretary of the Post Office in Wellington from the steamer Mindini, stating that the vessel was in serious dis tress on Hellish Reef, and required urgent assistance. The Mindini is a steel sorev steamer of .2065 tons gross register, built in 1905 by the Birth Shipbuilding C 0.,. Ltd., for Messrs Burns, Phj!p and Co., Ltd. Her principal dimensions are: Length, 280 ft; breadth, 40ft; depth, 48ft. She trades between Sydney and Brisbane and the Pacific Islands.
