SEVENTY BOOKS CHOSEN.
CANADIAN LIBRARY COLLECTION. (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, March 3. Mr. A. G. Stephens, editor of "The Bookfellow." who has received a commission from the Public Library at Toronto, Canada, to make, a collection of 100 books which will represent the creative genius of Australia and New Zealand, hae chosen seventy 'books from here.
It has been a difficult task to undertake, but IMr. Stephens accepted it willingly, and his work is well-nigh completed. The idea has awakened wide interest in Australia and New Zealand chiefly among the writers who will appreciate having their books displayed in the largest library in Canada. The selection hae been over the whole range of Australian and New Zealand literature as far as practicable.
Up to the present Mr. Stephens has chosen about 70 of the IOP volumes required. One difficulty has been that many good 'books are out of print, or nre unobtainable in their best editions. Mr. Stephens wanted a copy of Doris Egerton Jones' ''Peter Piper," and has not yet been able to obtain one of the best edition. The 'book' is a' bright, fresh, Australian romance} published several years ago. It is not the intention of Mr. Stephen* to publish the list of the books cliosen until tho work of selection is completed.
He expects to have the complete list ready to send away for the Canadian summer, in June, July, and August next.
