THE SUMMER CARNIVAL

ELLERSiIE FLORAL FETE. Arrangements for the floral fete which is to be held at Ellerslie on Saturday,. March 24, in connection with the Auckland summer carnival, were discussed at a meeting of the special committee. Mr. R- A. Laidlaw presided. j The carnival director reported that all the motor, firms, business firms and members of the Automobile Association had promised full support. Over 50 entries had been received so far for the: different events, and with promises which had been made, he estimated there would be over 300 . untries before the closing day.' '• Arrangements were being completed for running special trains for the occasion. j. \. In addition to the main' , attraction, it was decided to have maypole dancing and Highland^dancing competitions, and several of the schools are to give displays of flag and physical drill. A special prize of £100 will be awarded for the best decorated vehicle and the following prizes; will also be awarded:—Decorated motor-cars, £10: decorated motor trucks, £10; decorated motor-cycles and side-cars, £5: decorated motor-cycles, £3; decorated bicycles, £2 (or trophy); decorated lorries, first £10, second £5, third £3: decorated carts, first £5. second £3, third £2: trade and advertising displays, first £10, second £5, third £2: horse and trap, decorated, £5; decorated horse and rider, £2 2/decorated children's carts, £1 I/- decorated go-carts and perambulators, £2; children's pets, £1. Many business firms have undertaken to advertise, the Carnival Week by placing "carnival stickers" on all correspondence.
