NEWMARKET. The Newmarket Borough Council met last evening. Mr. 8. Donaldson presiding. New Municipal Bnildins.—A report by the foreman stated that TS? excavations for the new municipal building were completed, and everything was ready for the contractor. The building tvouU probably he under way before very long. Tram Fares. —The Council approved the action of the Eden Council in a»kins that the matter of revising train way fares and regulations be considered. The Mayor was of opinion that a preliminary conference of local bodies outside the city should first be held to discuss the matter. Piatrict Electors' Kill. — Copies of the district electors - roll were distributed by the clerk, showing that HIM names were on the roll for IOJ3. This was considerably iv excess of Inut years figures, when the number of names was HOP.. Rates Outstandiua.—The rates outstanding, including meter rates, amounted to £2+?S OR. For the past year £<WS had been received in stenernl rates, and it was to he expected, as In previous yenrs. that practically the whole o.f the outstanding amount would be paid before March 31st.
