WIDOW'S CLAIM SETTLED.
ENDEAN'S BUILDING CASE.
SUM OF £1.250 PAID.
A settlement -.was announced in tie Auckland Supreme Court to-day in the action in which Annie Olive Jone3 (MrButler) claimed £3.000 damages from Norman Taylor (Mr. Endean) for the death of her husband. George William Jones, painter. Auckland. The husband was working on ft eesffold on February 1. 1922. at Endeane Buildings, when he fell from the afftS floor, a distance of 78 feet. The widow brought an action for damages, bemjj represented by MY. A. H. Johnetone m Mr. Butler, but the defendant, represented by Mr. Endean and Mr. Andersen, secured the verdict. . ~ A new trial was. ordered on v* ground that the verdict was against' t» weight of evidence, and the defendant then lodged an appeal on the queetiol ofVe-trial. To-day it was stated that the sum « £1-250 had been agreed upon as fau settlement of all claims by the widofi including costs. Mrs. Jones gave evidence that she**! 24. and had a daughter of two and » half. His Honor. Mr. Justice Stringer, s»* that after taxed costs had been deducted, the money would be divided I*tween the mother and child, the latter* share being in the hands of the PnblK Trustee.
