VICTORIA SCORES 125. MACARTNEY FIVE FOR EIGHT. MELBOURNE, December 26. The cricket match between Victoria and New South Wales was continued to-day. Though the wicket was protected with tarpaulin, rain yesterday penetrated the covering and made the ground soft in parts. A heavy shower soon after the start delayed play. On resuming, Victoria's wickets fell cheaply, Macartney taking five wickets for 8 runs. Mailey took two for 53, and Gray three for 33. Victoria's first innings closed for 125, in reply to New South Wales' Bcore of 160. Fremantle made 13 rune.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) (Received 8.80 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. New South Wales' second innings closed for 141, Macartney scoring 15, Collins 29, Hendry 22, and Gray 28. Wallace took two -vrickete for 28 runs, and Liddicutt four for 35. Victoria in their second innings have lost no wickets for 4. The wicket in the later stages was treacherous, and favoured the bowlers, the batting being slow. —(A. and N.Z.)
