REMISSION OF DUES. Owine u> UiA-essation of work by s«imei> a joint letter was received from the Union steamship Company and vie Northern Steamship Company at a special meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board this morning, asking the board to meet them in the matter of dues. Il was pointed out that a considerable number of vessels were thrown out ot commission as the result of the seamen s action, and they had been lying alongside the wharf incurring dues for some tinie.
The board submitted the matter to its solicitors, who stated that they were not aware that tiie board had power to grant such a remission, but' suggested if the board agreed to the remission that the shipping companies give an undertaking to indemnify the board if it was later found that the board could not grant it. The board decided to make the remission .in terms of the solicitors" opinion.
