The Labour party addressed a letter to the Governor-General requesting him to exercise his prerogative in the direction of not appointing any further special criminal Courts for the trial of offences committed during the industrial disturbances and to withdraw cases already pending from the venue of such Courts, to restore the ancient right of trial by jury, and to commute the death sentences passed by the special .Courts. Six of the nine tried for the Brakpan nuirders during the "revolution have been discharged, and three sentenced to death, with a recommendation to mercy.—(A* and N.Z. Cable.)
