A FARMER'S DIFFICULTIES.

In the Magistrate's Court this morning before Mr. W. R. McKcan, S.M., •Robert Burns (Mr. Holmden), managing director of Jo'in Burns and Co., Ltd., proceeded against Thomas J. James (Mr. Thomson) for the sum of £2O, due on a promissory note. Defendant contended that there was an understanding between the parties concerning the repayment of the money on certain terms. His Worship said special circumstances had not been proved, and judgment would be for the plaintiff. Judgment was given against the same defendant in an action brought by John Burns and Co. (Mr. Holmden) " for the recovery of the sum of £24 10/, being the value of goods bought by defendant for use on his son's farm. •
