[PREPARING FOR THE Cl'P. A SOFT TRACK. The weather was fine for trainini opera tions at Ellerslie this morning, but the recent heavy rains left the crass tracks soft, and under the circumstances the outside of the course proper was not available. The sand, tan and No. 2 grass tracks were open, practically all the fast work being registered on the latter, but the tasks* as a whole were more of the useful than the sensational order, the rimes recorded only being about the average of a working gallop. Unles9 otherwise mentioned the work was registered on the grass. Nocturne was first to claim attention, running six furlongs in 1.33. Top 'Score and Wild Hind, both of which look -Bell, spurted three furlongs in 37 4-ss. Emerald Hill was going easier than Golden Glass at the end of six furlongt, run in 1.20 4-5. "Winning Hit galloped six furlongs in 1.21, and then strode over a round at a good threequarter >pace. Electrode spurted four furlongs in 51 3-ss. Spirit Level got to the end of six forlongs in 1.22 2-5. (Royal Present was too good for Gold Jacket over six furlongs, run In 1.21. John Dix taking 1.25 to -cover the same distance. No Bother was finishing better than Paddlngton Green at the end of a round run la Refinement ran six furlongs in 1.21, Ijidy Patience raking 1.26 for a similar journey. Lady Ridicule sprinted five furlongs la 1.7, finishing well. Golden Dream and Sir Otway were on terms at the end of four furlongs in 61 2-ss. the same distance taking Sheffield 33 2-Sa, and Murihaupo 565. . Multiplane covered a round in 1.51 2-5, Income taking exactly the same time for the same distance, but was not doing hi* Ben Nevis pleased better than Fife and Drum over four furlongs in 525, a similar Journey taking Economic 50s. Scion and Royal Box were worked on the sand In company, galloping seven furlongs in 1.32 3-5. fluishing on terms. A lot of others did useful pace work, unong those exercised being Prince Randall, Angelo, Mustard Pot, Marconi. Sycorax. Mumble, Bay Dighton, Broadwood, Alport. Boomerday, Nightraider, Never Despair. Tenacious, Wheatfield. Ruapapa, Dead Sweet, Razzle Dazzle, and Gold Light. After breakfast things were somewhat quiet. Pentagram and Amlform covered a round without being unduly bustled, covering the last six furlongs In 1.24 2-5 Oranga spurted three furlongß in 42 3-5». Master Mick and the Quin Abbey mare owned by Mr. Irwin spurted five furlongs In 1.8 3-5. Poteen did a good working gallop over about a mile and three-quarters, galloping the first six furlongs in 1.21, the last mi taking 1.24 1-5. __ . Shebang spurted four furlongs in 55 S-os. Daddy's Girl. Totara Jack, and Lady Bruce were in that order at the end of n round which took 1.50 2-5. Reretoa taking 1 54 to register a similar task. Cool Stimulants rail six furlorgs in 'Monday and the Bridgie filly spurted four fnrlongs in 53 1-5, and Polini, Star of Fate. Comedy Prince, Passin - Through Arch Salute, Peter Amans, and a number of others did useful work. ■ On the sand Greekson and Kanikaten. with the assistance of Passionate over the last three furlongs, sprinted five furlongs in 1.5 2-5, the former pleasing most. THE JTJMPERS. Killnrd lumped six hurdles In good style. No Bother was schooled yesterday morning, fencing well.
