Pherson, a well known agriculturists "Dulcie Chlepanton" and "Kildruramie" He finished his education at the Royal Academy, Inverness, and arrived in New Zealand a young man in 1885, and joined the railway department for a short tin* He afterwards entered a stock and station agency in Canterbury, and then became one of the first settlers on the famous limestone tables at Xgapara, As a practical farmer he took an actiw part in public affairs and filled maw important positions, and first courted the favour of the electors in 1800 when he was defeated at Oamaru as a Liberal. Three years later he was again defeated but his turn came at the election of 1905 when he contested the Mount Jd» seat against Mr. Herdman (now Mr. Jng. tice Herdman), whom he defeated or 394 votes. In 1908 when the teat waV called Tuapeka he headed the first ballot with 1552 votes, Mr. R. Scott being second w:th 1453, and Dr. Chappfe tnird with 1301. Mr. Scott reversed plan, with him at the second ballot, winning by 2478 votes to 1781. At the next eta. tion Mr. MaePherson again carried the Liberal banner at VVaitaki, but wag defeated by Mr. F. H. Smith by 84 voteg at the second ballot. At the two gubgequent elections he made a close contest with Mr. Lee, being defeated by 338 in 1914 and 276 in 1919. This year kg defeated his old opponent by 85 -votes. In all Mr. MaePherson has contested nine elections, and in every one hag made a close fight.
