■ m ■ ■■ AND ADVERTISE IT WELL. A WEEK OF CARNIVAL. An ambitious scheme of the Auckland Advertising Club to advertise Auckland' l.y means of a big open-air carnival was considered lust evening by represcnia- ' 1 tives of the principal sporting aud kindred bodies in Auckland. Mr. A. Burt preside.!, and told the meeting that the idea was to brighten life in Auckland and : develop the carnival spirit in a place ' that was fitted so well by Nature for the purpose. There was also another purpose behind the scheme, and that was to raid' .Cr-UUO, which would be spent in advertising Auckland abroad. Mr. G. M. Fowlds, the president of the Advertising Club, said the Club would be 1 very willing to place its services at tha disposal of the committee it was pro- j posed should run the carnival. At pre- ' sent the idea was that the carnival ! should extend over a week. .March 3 to j March 10. 11123, had been suggested. The ! preliminary financial arrangements had , been fixed up, and the tentative pro- ; gramme included a regatta, a queen carnival (in which country towns would ' nominate candidates), athletic sports, i tournaments cf all kinds, a baby show, daiuinir competition, Venetian carnival : on the waterfront, performances bymassed bands, fireworks, and various ! competitions. As a finale it was sug- | gested to have a procession and a battle . of tlowcrs, and the crowning of the Queen. Delegates present discussed tbe proposal, and were favourably impressed with its possibilities. It was decided that the delegates should explain matters i to their various societies, and a further, meeting will be held early in the New Year.
