DEATH OF A JOURNALIST.
MR. EDWARD SAUNDERS. (By TelegrapH.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. Edward Saundent > journalist, a member of the "Dominion" literary staff, has died from heart failure following pneumonia. He was 40.years of age.
The late Mr. Edward Saunders was a New Zealander and a son of Mr. Samuel Saunders, for many years editor of the "Lyttelton Times." upon which newspaper the deceased started his career in journalism. Later he joined the literary staff of the "Sew Zealand Times," from which he transferred to the "Dominion," and at the time of his death he was the chief Parliamentary Press Gallery representative and political reporter for that journal. Though of a somewhat reserved disposition, the late Mr. Saunders was highly esteemed by his fellow journalists for his many excellent qualities and was considered one of the most capable members of the profession in the Dominion. When Sir Ernest, at that time lieutenant, Shackleton, returned from his first expedition
the Antarctic in' 1907, Mr. Saunders joined him as private secretary, in which capacity he accompanied the explorer to England and edited his book on the experiences and fruits of the expedition. He married about ten years ago and leaves a young family.
