TRAM AND MOTOR BUS.

"CUTTING THE CORNER." Consequent on a collision between a tram and motor bus at the corner of East and Symonds Streets, the driver of the latter vehicle, H. Ainsworth (Mr. Allan Moody), was yesterday charged at the Police Court with negligent driving and with having cut the corner. Evidence was given that on a recent dark, wet night defendant's vehicle collided with a tram, breaking the glass screen and injuring the motorman. The defence was that the view of the bus driver was obscured by a motor car, and that lie was thus unable to avoid the accident. The negligent driving charge was dismissed, but for "cutting the corner" the defendant was convicted and ordered to pay £2 17/6 costs.
