THE SHOPPING FESTIVAL.

GOOD THINGS FOR CHRISTMAS.

MANY SPLENDID DISPLAYS.

Practical Suggestions for Seasonable Gifts.

Again the festival season (hat embraces both Christmas and the New Year i> mi us. ana again the business man, tiic manufacturers, and more particularly the retail shopkeepers of Auckland, have risen to the occasion, so that the city and its many suburbs are gay with bright displays, and hundreds of thousands of busy shoppers throng all the business houses, making the shopkeepers themselves feel like living embodiments of the famous Cbeeryble Brothers. Tho standard of the displays in the retail shops at this time of ihe year gives proof, if any were needed, that our shopkeepers anticipate a wonderful demand during the festival season that is now here. Excellent judgment is shown on the part of those who make it their business and their pleiTsure to cater for the wants of the people, and all who will buy their needs for the summer or for tlie holidays will be well advised to do their shopping early. In fact, "Shop Karly" may well he taken as a slogan by the 16(1.000 souls who all combine to make Auckland the premier city in New Zealand, both for business and for pleasure. Everyone is now once again braced and buoyant with the anticipation tof good days in store, and all have every reason to look Torward to a period of continued prosperity. The position of our industries gives hope and ample scope for the future, and the approach of Christmas and the New Yearpends additional impetus to trade. Since this is the time of all times for the buyer, and because prices that ■have been so high have settled down to what may be regarded as a stable rate, a glance through these brief descriptions of sound commercial propositions put forward by a great variety of business houses will bring many excellent seasonable suggestions.
