THE BUTTER OUTLOOK.
AMERICAN DEMAND. The market for butter is reported ft little firmer in London. The National Dairy Association received a . cable dated December nth from its London office" that New Zealand butter was quoted at 180/, Australian at 174/ to 176/, Argentine 160/ to 166/, and Danish at 200/. Mr. Mervyn Wells, chairman of the Cam-bridge Co-operative Dairy Association received a cable from London dated December 11th, stating that Cambridge Ibutter was quoted at 184/ and other brands at 180/ for 'delivery after ChTißtmas. The N.Z. Cooperative Dairy Company, Ltd.. received « similar cable from its agent \ in London, quoting Anchor butter at - 18*/ per cwt.. also .indicating that the market was likely to go higher, as buyers bad been hpiding .off in the anticipation of lower' prices Tuling and were, therefore, short for the Christmas demand. The message further indicated that the prices were likely to remain firm until January, when the heavy tirrivals might retirees prices, but it is not considered likely that quotations will drop much below 170/. It is of interest to note that America U demanding butter grading of a minimum of 00 points and it iR thous-ht likely that fair Quantities of superfine will go to. the United States durins the next couple of month*, notwithstanding the duty of 4<J per lb. The directors of the Xew Zpnlaml CoODerative Dairy Co., Ltd., decided yesterday at Hamilton that the advance payments to suppliers should be the same as that for last month, nnmely. 1/2} per H> for superfine and 1/4 for cheese.
