Abdul Hadi Khan, Afghan Minister in London, interviewed, declared that the Afghans would recognise the new Khalif. They were at present satisfied with leaving the destinies of the Khalifat in Turkish hands, but such recognition would not be given if the Kemalists deprived the Khalif of temporal 'power. A similar view was expressed by Doctor Xajiclasil. representative of the Hedjaz. who said that all depends on whether the Kemalists make a real Khalif armed with full traditional powers, temporal and spiritual, or leave him as a flgurehead devoid of real si_nincanee. In the latter case he will not be regarded hy the Iledja. as a real Kaliph. Tlie Kemalists could not dictate terms to Islam, the Moslem world would, in fact, decide who the Khalif shall be.
