RIFLE SHOOTING.
AKARAXA CLUB. The semi-final shoot for trophies presented to the club \>y Mrs. A. B. T. Devoro, Mr. H. Doughty, and Mr. S. Elliott, was fired on Saturday at Penrose, in Ideal weather conditions. There was a large attendance of member*, and some fine -booting was witnessed. Despite the beautiful weather the average of the scores was rather low, but one or two excellent scores showed that tbe conditions were not difficult. In tbe A section. Rifleman C. Ashley, set a bot pace by compiling 48 at tbe first range, subsequently increasing it to 94 out of 100 at the second r_n._e. With such a jrood .core he had bard luck In being defeated by Lieut. P. O. Veale, who started with 47 at 500 yards, and compiled 40 ont of 50 at OX) yards, thus completing a total of 06 out. of a possible 100. These two men hare alternated in first and second place for the past three weeks. Tn the B seetlou. Rifleman C. V. .Harris took first place, chiefly by virtue of a good 48 compiled at the first range. Rifleman ... B. Torbot was second, arrt Capt. K._t_c_mar just defeated Rifleman A. E. Hughes for third. Rifleman E. O. White headed the C section with the third best score of the day. He bad extremely hard luck Id not securing Mr. Colijuhoun'a special trophy for the first C section member to score over 00. Rifleman White's total just baited on the border line, equalling, biit not beating, the required hhrh standard.
