MOUNT EDEN CIXB. CARNIVAL THIS EVENING. . hTe opening carnival of tbe 1022-1023 season of. tbe Mount Eden Swimming Club w.ll be held at the Tepid Raths, Hobson Stree*. this evening. The excellent programme which has been arranged includes ling distance events. 50yds and 66 2-3ycls dashes and diving competitions. There will also te a novel attraction in the form of a candle race MISS SHAND'S PERFORMANCES. NEW 220 YARDS RECORD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. At the welcome home carnival held last evenine in honour of Miss Gwitha Shan., the champion lady swimmer, given at Te Aro batbs by the Wellington Centre of tbe New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. Miss Sliand easily won the 220 yds. invitation race, lowering her own prevlcns New Zealand record by 10 2-ss. She came within 1 2-5s of Miss Fanny Durack's time. Miss Shand took 2m 57 2-5_ for the distance, and also won the 100 yds event In
