RUGBY FOOTBALL.
The work of the Auckland Referees' Association during the past season ivas brought before the A.R.U. executive at a meeting of the latter body last night, when the secretary of the Kefeiees' Association notified that "(JO matches hud been arranged In the season, and referees had been appointed for that number of games Only three of the games had been abandoned through referees failing to attend. The meeting did not discuss a communication from the New Zealand Union conveying a recommendation by Mr. S. S. Dean, manager of the All Blacks on their Australian tour, that New Zenland should adopt the 3— z —3 scrum formation as a means of eliminating the wing-forward. In terms of an agreement that the' committee should define the boundaries of the Franklin and Pukekohe subunions in the event of the parties not arriving nt a mutual agreement, the committee's country adviser. Mr. T. H. Patterson, was delegated to visit the district and discuss the position with representatives of both side* with a yew to getting the matter settled.
The chairman reported that he. with Messrs. Gray and ißayliss. had attended a conference of sports bodies convened to assist the War Memorial Museum Oqmmitlee by prompting a sportd gala and] floral ifete at Ellerslie on December 16 'when members of the Rugby Union nronlif take part. A letter was received fronv the Auckland Advertising. Club relative to holding a carnival week in Auckland from March 3 to lv, the profits to be use<l for advertising Auckland, and the chairman was appointed. to represent the J'nion on tie General Committee appointed to organise the carnival.
