PROHIBITION.
DISCUSSED BY THE SYXOD. -At the opening meeting of the Anglin Diocesan Synod, the Key. P. S. Small:ld moved that the church people of ie diocese be recommended to vote for ohibition. Science declared alcohol to ! a poison; therefore it was a mistake > sell it as a beverage. He asked, >uld they morally dare to advocate connuance of a traffic that carried sorrow, nerty, degradation, and unspeakable isery in its train ? The motion was seconded by Mr. C. J. Links. Archdeacon Williams moved as an nendment the resolution passed by the st General Synod, saying he did not see ie slightest chance of the motion being irried unanimously. This was to the Tect that it was the bounden duty of hristians. unless they were to vote for >tal prohibition, to have some other rsstic remedy for the liquor evil, which aa "sapping the work and efficiency of ie community." The real remedy for ie evils of drink was the grace of God.. The amendment was seconded by Mr. rorman Burton vho R«iH ho tnnk it for ranted that the General Synod's resoluion meant that a vote for continuance Mild only be given provided that rejrms would be carried out. Canon Tisdall said he feared fnr the fTect of the nmendmont. for if the lotion were defeated it would be used •ith deadly effect in the campaign drastic remedy" referred t" in the memlment?
