H.M.S. EURYLUS ASHORE.
ON "WAT TO BREAKING-UF YARD. EX-AUSTRALASIAN FLAGSHIP. (Received 10.30 aria.) LONDON, September 24. Advic. c from Hamburg state that while under the tow of a. German tug, H.M.S. Euryalus, going to Keil to the broken up, went ashore near Brunsbutte Koog. Six tugs wero unable to move her, and it is anticipated that great diiliculty will be experienced in shifting her. — (Reuter.) The 'Euryalue paid _eve;al visits to Auckland when she was flagship of the Australasian squadron. She was a sister ship to the Aboukir, Cressy and Hogue, sunk by a German submarine in the earlier stages of the war. She was built in 1901 and was of 12,000 tons. Her length was 454 ft. by a beam of 69_ft and a draught of 28ft. She carried two nine-inch guns and I*2 six-inch, her speed being 21 knots. The Euryalus did a good deal of patrol work during the war, but she was of too old a type for use :a the major operations.
