PREMIER ON CRISIS. ATTITUDE OF KEMAL. (By Telesrraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Mr. M-assey informed t!he House of P.epresentaitives this afternoon "that he was giving tlie gist of information lie had received regarding the Near East situation in saying that he regretted the position was not so re-assuring as it was tin Thrumday. "We axe not out of danger of the ipossibility of war; we really will not he out of danger for a week or ten days.'' Everything, he added, depended on Kemal and his associates. If they agreed to the confer-em-c which had lieen suggested by Great Britain and its allies end agreed to refrain from encroachment on territory reserved under the Treaty of Sevres, all would be well, but at present he would not be justified in leading the House or country to believe that we were out of the trouble. Mr. E. J. Howard (Cihrisfohureh Sout.li): ATe the cables to lie relied on : are they wrong ? Mr. Mass'cy: I don't say that. Probably the effect of what I am saying may appear in the evenir..g pa.pers. Labour members: All a scare. Mr. Massey: I am not a scaremonger in aJiy sense of the word. The situation is F.till anxious. Answerimr a former inquiry regardin.-*' provision for the safety of New Zealanders in Constantinople and Callipoli, the Premier read a cablegram from the Lnrperial authorities stating that Bri'tisih naval and -military authorities may be relied on to make adequate arrangements .for the safety of t'ht British community, but evacuation had not !*>en considered desirable. This inquiry from New Zealand had been referred to the High Commissioner for Great Britain in Constantinople, and he (Mr. Massey) expected to have further information as a retsult.
