After making reference to legislation abroad in this connection, the speaker referred to Australasian legislation which had modilied and improved the old measure until it was universally accepted in it< present forms. An essential principle wa- that a contract made in a foreign country had necc-.-arily to be interpreted according to the laws of that hind. This principle was universally applied. Legislation at present before the New Zealand Parliament bad I also an important bearing regarding ! bills of lading, and should be followed by 1 commercial men with close attention.
