BIRKENHEAD AFFAIRS.
Interest was displayed at Birkdale last night in the various propositions formulated by the Birkenhead Borough Council, the meeting being largely attended. Mr. J. \V. Dodson presided. The mayor, Mr. J. W. Court, detailed the loan schemes, and said the roading proposals should be definitely decided upon at the next council meeting, after which the loan poll could be held as soon as le<*al procedure allowed. Birkdalc, he explained, was not included in the special drainage area. Electricity, footpath-, transit service, fire brigade, and water supply reticulation, however, affected the whoie boroujrh. The. option over the motor bus company's assets lor £(il)00 included the land and building-, the property being a corner section of nearly one acre, with road frontages of ZM feet and 21G feet (£l-250), five motor buses, together with spare parts and tool* (£47.10). The proposed construction of footpaths provided for one inch of .lean shingle or metal chips, rolled to even surface; bituminous solution heated then sprayed into the shingle under pressure of 401b: surface then covered with line shingle, and rolled. After two or three of foot traflic the second coal of bitumen or other material vas applied. Mr. S. S. Rout urged the opening up of the Birkdale Tark of 4J acres, and suggested a track should be made to Christmas Tree, beach, which was used largely by local residents.
