A MINISTERIAL GRANT.
FOR SILVERDALK DISTRICT. At a meeting of Silverdale ratepayer-!, at which the chairman of the Wajteniata Council (Captain Theet), and the engineer (Mr. U-eruld A. Jackson) were present, the offer of the Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. O. Coatcs) to provide £1000 towards the metalling of the Redvttle-Silverdale road was considered. After discussing general roading matters and methods of construction, it was unanimously resolved that the council should be requested to concentrate operations with a view to providing a through metalled road from Silverdale to Birkenhead at the earliest possible date. As it was recognised that the usual twelve cubic yards of metai per chain would not stand present day traffic, it was resolved that the method of construction be a foundation of 12 cubic yards per chain of local stone laid down. In furtherance of these resolutions, reported the engineer at yesterday's meeting, application has been made to the Minister to transfer his offer of £1000 to the Silverdale-Dairy flat road, and in the meantime to authorise the expenditure of the grants for the Albany-Dairy Flat and Silverdale-Dairy Flat roads in time to commence operations early in the summer. He also intimated that the Auckland oflice of the Public Works Department was favourably disposed towards the proposals, and would recommend that they should be approved, with some slight provisions. The council adopted the report.
