EX-KAISER'S APOLOGIA. DISHONEST AND STUPID BOOK. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON*, August 18. Under the heading "Comparative History," the ex-Kaiser has published what the "Daily Mail" calls a dull collection of dates with the object of proving that Germany was not a wolf in sheep's clothing. The "Mail" states that the dates are so cooked as to make the book worthless. It is a dishonest book, and must have been compiled by particularly stupid people. — (United Service.) The Australian Research Council con- ' sidered and heartily supported the pro posal to hold a pan-Pacific scientific conference in Sydney and Melbourne next Ivear. The x C'ommonwealth Government promised £5000 towards the cost. Professor Sir Edgworth David stated that an invitation to attend had been accepted by the United States National Research Council. Arrangements were being made to send general invitations. The meeting discussed the scope of the conference, and decided to add the officers of the Council of Research to the existing pan-Pacific conference in order to make the necessary arrangements.— (A. and X.Z. Clinton Brainard, head of the firm ofMcC'lure, publishers, after securing the world rights for the ex-Kaiser's memoirs for £.W,OOO, has arranged with. M. Viviani and Mr. Asquith to write reply volumes. It is reported that one of the most sensational chapters in the ex-Kaiser's ' bcok will deal with his offer of temporal power to the Pope in the event of his ', successful mediation for peace.—(A. and.
