NO EXPLOITATION AT NAURU.
ROYALTIES TO NATIVES. FIVE TIMES GERMAN TOTAL. (Received 1<).:SO a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. It is understood that the Federal Government furnished the High Commissioner with a report refuting , the suggestion in the report of the Mandates Commission that tlie natives of Nauru have been exploited. It stajfcM that the conditions of the natives under i the existing administration are immea- | surably superior to their treatment under German rule. The royalty paid I to natives has been multiplied by five, and all the conditions of the mandate faithfully observed. The output of phosphates has been increased by four hundred thousand tons yearly, and the price in Australia has been reduced by nearly 30/ a ton. The report adds that criticism of tlie administration is viewed with suspicion, as being inspired by commercial interests in other countries, which are jealous of Australia's advantages. —(A. and X.Z. Cable.)
