AN AUCKLAND ACCOUNTANT.

ADJUDICATED A BANKRUPT. ON CREDITORS rETITION. A petition to have Douglas Stewart Wylie, accountant of Auckland I Mr. R. • V. Hunt, adjudicated a bankrupt was lodged by Thomas 15. Arthur, on behalf ' of Richard Arthur and Co. and sundry other creditors (Mr. V. R. Meredith), before Mr. Justice Stringer, in the Supreme Court yesterday. The gTOunds ot the petition were that the respondent had left New Zealand to evade payment ot his debts, which were stated to l>e in the vicinity of £900 or £1000. Tho defence was that the respondent had gono abroad for health reasons and not for the purpose of delaying or defeating his creditors. Mr. Hunt also contended that his client's assets in New Zealand were sufficient to meet hie liabilities and therefore the petition was not justified. He suggested that as he now had a power of attorney that he be given an opportunity to examine what were the actual extent of tho assets. His Honor said that he must presume that the respondent went away with ah intention to embarrass his creditors. If it transpired later that an injustice had been done to him, the respondent had only | brought it on himself. He had no alternotivc but to adjudicate him a bankrupt.
