RIVERS COMMISSION.
WAIHOU AND OHINEMTJRI. PROTEST AGAINST ALUX'ATION, Tho Hauraki Plains County Council at ite meeting on Morwfay took exception to the allocation of costs by the Waihou and Ohinemuri rivers commission, the Hauraki Plains being required to find a large amount in proportion to U.-ne!it. received. A deputation irged that immediate action be taken, and it was decided that the Council immediately enter a most vmphatio protest to the Kiovernment against the commission's finding as it affects tho ratepayers on the Hauraki Plains. If the finding were given effect to, the evttlcrs would l>e rated off their properties, the land, with other necessary rates, being unable to carry it: also that the membvrs for the district, Messrs. Poland and Rhodes, l>o written to, and if necessary, the council scud a qualified representative to Wellington to act in conjunction with other bodk-s in protesting against an excessive rate being levied on the ratepayers.
