EMPIRE EXHIBITION.
A WELLINGTON COMMITTEE. SHOULD IJE ALJL-XJSW ZEALAXD. iAt a meeting of the Industrial Association yesterday. Mr. J. A. C. Allum (president) referring to the report of the delegates f> the Wellington Confer|on it' on the Empire Exhibition, saiil he thought the appointment of an executive of nine Wellington men was a mi-take. The people having the final say should be a iiimmittee of men from earh of tin' four centre*. Tlie secretary (Mr. Findlay) said that the only reason for appointing a Wellington committee >vas because \isitmg delegates could not wait in that city. The president said it would he a calamity if New Zealand manufacturers were not represented at tiu> Empire. Exhibition. The idea was to show the various countries what New Zealand could grow and manufacture. New Zealand badly wanted advertisement. The people of tlie Old Country knew very little about n~. This exhibition of 1924 would be the linCt opportunity to advertise that New Zealand could possibly ■ret. That was why he was not happy about tin , executive to make arrangements for New Zealand's display being i composed solely of Wellington men. He would , not even have the Government handle the matter. e\e»pt by subsidising: arrangements should be in the hands of an executive of bu-incs.-s men representative of the four centres. The Xew Zealand display should be representative of all the Dominion, not of one or two particular centre- 1 . There should lie a committee in each centre, which J could appoint a central executive. ! It was decided to sock further inforjmation from Wellington before proceeding further * with discussion on this j matter.
