TRAINING TRACK BURDENS.
THE AUCKLAND CLUBS LOAD. LIMITATION FORt>!L_DOYVED. j Reference to the burden of providing training tracks was made by Sir Jidwin Mitchelson to-day in putting before members of the Auckland Racing Club the work of the club during the year. "It has become necessary that 1 should make special reference to our training tracks, which is a subject not often mentioned at our annual meetings." he said. "We have now, in addition to the course : proper, no less than nine training tracks, namely:—Sand track, tan track, grass gallops (three), hurdle track, 2-year-old track, steeplechase track, jogging track. No club in New Zealand makes better provision for training than our club. Owing, however, in a measure, to the unfavourable nature of the soil, but very largely to the altogether excessive num- ! ber of horses using the tracks, the expenditure on upkeep, maintenance, ftnd I supervision is becoming more than the I club should be called upon to undertake. iThc plain fact is that the suburban clubs I are not recognising their responsibilities tin this connection. This must be 1 obvous to every man in the least interested. Your committee propose at an i early date to take this matter into their leerious consideration with the view of limiting the number of horses permitted Ito be trained at Ellerslie. and thus proI viding the relief to our tracks so urgently needed.''
