! A LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR. HONOUR, BUT NO PAY. NEW YORK, August 13. \ The Lieutenant-Governor of Nebraska I Mr. Pelham Barrows) is working as a strike guard for the Burlington Railway at five dollars a day. "Being LieutenantGovernor." he said, ''has honour, but no remuneration. I took the new work when Mrs. Barrows found that we had 3 dolj lars 40 cents banked and I had one dollar 10 cents in my pocket without another cent in the world. I had to take this I work, since I could not get any other. j and ray wife and I are down and out." i The Lieutenant-Governor under the Nebraska law, does not receive remuneration, save as presiding officer of the State Assembly. He receives 1200 dollars during its biennial sessions. When acting in the absence of the Governor he should receive the emoluments of that office, but as the last Assembly rejected an Appropriation Bill, providing for that, there are no funds to meej, the Barrows' claim . for ISOO dollars for serving as ActingGovernor re<*ently.— i'A. and N.Z.
