TYPHUS WAVE.
THREATENED FROM RUSSIA. AMERICAN DOCTOR'S VISIT. (By Cable.—rress Association.— Copyright.') (Receivo.l 10.30 a.ro.i LONDON, August 13. Dr. Copeland, of the New York Hoard of Health, who recently toured the Russian frontier, declares, as a result of inquiries, that I hi- whole of Western Europe is threatened with an appalling typhus wave in tho near future. He said he was no prophet, but he would be amazed if Poland was not swept by typhus or cholera next, winter, and Western 'Kuropo and America were in serious danger, the latter owing to the large influx of European immigrants. Ho saw a i.ruin disembark six hundred emaciated, verminous refugees from Siberia, where they were herded in trucks. Two thousand others died en route, an.l their bodies were thrown on the railway track and left to rot. This was a. typical instance. The published reports did not do justice to the horrors of the situation. The remedy was to feed, clothe and medically attend the refugees, of whom it was expected that there would 1m- a million and a-half before the winter.— ( diked Service.)
