HAURAKI PLAINS.

There has been a movement by the Hauraki Plains County Council, Thames Borough Council and Thames County Council to build a bridge across the Waihott River at Kirlkiri, between Kopu and Turua. The bridge Is estimated to cost approximately £90,000 and the apportionment of cost agreed upon by the Interested councils is as follows:—Government subsidy, £30,000; Hauraki Plains County, £12,000; Thames Borough, £12,000; Thames Connty, £6000. Tbe Hauraki Plains Connty CoimIcil has been elected tbe controlling body, and under tbe conditions of tbe Act has proposed to carry out tbe work without submitting the proposals to the ratepayers. This course has been objected to by Thames Connty Council, and also by a number of tbe interested ratepayers on the Hauraki Plains. The Turua Ratepayers' Association has decided to send a deputation to the controlling body urging that a poll be taken on tbe bridge proposals I and that the proposed rating area l.c defined. The Ngatea branch of the Farmers' Union was at its last meeting asked to assist the deputation. It was decided tbat two of the members join the Turua deputation when it waits on tbe Hauraki Plains I Count? Council.

The Hauraki Plains Athletic and Sports Cluh htjld v very successful fancy dress hall at Tuma on Thursday, when the hall was all too small to comfortably hold the large number of guests, who came from all parts of the Hauraki Plains. Many of the fancy dresses were very original, and were evidence of great i-are being taken in the make-up.
