BIBLE-IN-SCHOOLS.
PROTESTANT CHURCHES' CONFERENCE. A UNITED •PLATFORM. (By Telegraph.—Trees Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. At a conference of representatives ol different Protestant churches the following resolution regwding Bible instruction in schools was carried: "That this conference proposes as a united platform for securing Bible instruction in State schools:
(1) That a textbook be prepared by representaltives of the Christian churches for approval by the 'Education Department, including (a) a passage of Scripture and (b) a selection of hymns.
(2) That the text book be used in the State schools for Scripture lessons to 'be given by "teachers, with simple explanations, for (fifteen minutes daily, to be opened with the Lord's Prayer.
(3) That a conscience clause be allowed for teachers unwilling to give Scripture instruction aad for paremts not desiring children to attend such instruction; .
(4) In the event of any teacher availing himself of the conscience clause the school committee shall make suitable arrangements for conducting Scripture lessons.
The resolutions were submitted to the Minister of Education and Mr. Caughley, Director. The Minister promised to bring the resolutions before Cabinet.
