RHODESIA AND THE UNION.
NATIONALIST OPPOSITION. TOO HEAVY A BURDEN. (Received 10.30 a.m.) CAPETOWN, August 11. The Federal Council of the Nationalist party, Bitting at Bloemfontcin, passed a resolution protesting against the policy of the Smuts Government regarding Rhodesia and also against the terms offered Rhodesia and the Chartered Company on the grounds that Parliament was not consulted, that representation was out of proportion to the population, that Rhodesia was granted rights not shared by the existing provinces, and that the financial burden imposed on the union was too heavy The council proposes to raise an agitation against the autocratic and unconstitutional attitude of the Government by public meetings. —(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
